Downtown Anchorage street parking spaces transform as parks and interactive spaces

Park(ing) Day is a creative collaboration with the Municipality of Anchorage’s Parks & Recreation department and EasyPark that creates alternative usage for street parking spaces for a single day. This year the event will take place on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

On Park(ing) Day citizens, artists, designers and local businesses temporarily transform street parking spaces into temporary public places or “parklets”. Park(ing) Day, an international celebration, is to draw attention to how we use public space and explore new ways of interaction within our city.

This year, EasyPark’s parklet will be located on 5th Avenue & C Street (in front of Midnight Sun Café). From noon-4:00 p.m., D.J. Spencer Lee will be providing music entertainment. To encourage use of off street parking, EasyPark will be validating garage parking at their parklet until 4:00 p.m.

As a part of “Welcoming Anchorage Week” and in conjunction with Park(ing) Day, the Anchorage Artist Co-op is hosting a pop-up mixer on the Rooftop of EasyPark’s 7th & G parking garage from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. DJ's,Total Rebel Sound - DJ Militant and AK HOUSE Movement, and pop up performances from local artists will be part of the mixer.   For additional information, contact George Martinez, [email protected] or 343-7108
