Saturday Time Enforcement Provides 15% More Street Meter Parking in Downtown Anchorage

EasyPark presented their 2016-2017 field study and data collection to the Downtown Saturday Stakeholder group and to the Anchorage Community Development Authority’s Board of Directors during the month of April 2018. The parking data showed the following improvements occurred since implementing the 2 hour program: an increase in turnover, a 15% reduction in vehicles parking throughout the day, and greater space availability in the morning hours.

Based on this data, the Stakeholder group and the Board of Directors supported the recommendation that the 2-hour enforcement stay in place at street meters in downtown Anchorage in order to continue the parking turnover that is needed to support downtown businesses and improve accessibility.

EasyPark will continue their parking incentive programs in downtown Anchorage. The most successful to date has been the Employee Parking Program that provides a 70% discount to those that makes less than $35,000 a year.  To date, through the incentive program, EasyPark has processed 2,025 transactions and qualified employees obtained 1,324 monthly parking permits.

“A well-managed parking system will provide more options for customers, increase access to and around downtown, balance the needs of all users, and improve public safety, said Brian Borguno, EasyPark’s Parking Director.

The Saturday Parking Stakeholder Group will continue to meet to discuss the following topics: Metrics & Measurement, Marketing & PR, and additional Programs for Downtown Anchorage.  If you would like to get involved and participate with the Saturday Parking Stakeholder Group, contact Melinda Gant at 297-4415.
